One of the highlights of my (gregorian) year was this fall walk to a beautiful old Millennium oak tree. On November 5 a group of adventurous tree lovers ventured into the grounds of the Sarcow Castle with me to learn some history about Gad Beck and Jewish artistic and survival mutual aid networks. It was a really beautiful and meaningful journey. We shared some of what grounds or roots us in front of the tree, and found some really cute mushrooms along the way. *But they aren’t edible because the area used to house a lead factory! The grounds also have a interesting Jewish history, being bought by Jewish Banker Meyer Magnus, and for a time the Mendelson family was hosted here and Felix Mendelson possible composed at this house!
